Machining Ceramics on CNC Routers
Making smaller, precise parts is more difficult for the average person due to how brittle they can be. Soapstone, however, has been used for intricate sculpture for thousands of years. A high talc content makes it soft and easy to carve. The resulting parts have great heat storage capacity, insulating properties, and toughness.
With just a desktop CNC and an oven capable of heating to 1,000-1,200 C, detailed machined ceramics can be made easily.
The goal of this is to make machined parts that benefit from the properties of ceramics in an accessible way.
